Digital analytics FAQ
Clear answers for reliable measurement.
Explore practical guidance about strategy, GA4, Google Tag Manager, consent, ecommerce, reporting, implementation quality, and ongoing support.
01
Strategy and analytics audits
Scoping, measurement planning, audits, and remediation priorities.
What does a digital analytics audit include?
An audit reviews GA4, Google Tag Manager, the dataLayer, conversion events, ecommerce, consent behaviour, referral handling, cross-domain measurement, and reporting consistency. Findings are prioritised by business impact and accompanied by a practical remediation plan.
When should a business request a tracking audit?
An audit is useful before a redesign or migration, after changing a CMP or ecommerce platform, when conversions do not match business systems, or when teams no longer trust their reports.
What is a measurement plan?
A measurement plan connects business questions and KPIs to events, parameters, conversions, audiences, ownership, validation rules, and reporting outputs. It provides the blueprint for a maintainable implementation.
Can you work with an existing implementation instead of rebuilding it?
Yes. Existing setups are retained where they are sound. The goal is to repair, simplify, document, and extend the implementation without replacing working components unnecessarily.
02
GA4 and Google Tag Manager
Implementation, migration, event design, and governance.
What is included in a GA4 implementation?
A typical implementation covers property and stream configuration, event and parameter design, key events, referral exclusions, cross-domain settings, channel checks, audiences, ecommerce where relevant, and end-to-end QA.
Can you repair or migrate an existing GA4 setup?
Yes. Work can include event cleanup, conversion rationalisation, migration from legacy naming, cross-domain configuration, ecommerce validation, and a documented transition plan.
How should a Google Tag Manager container be structured?
A maintainable container uses clear naming conventions, folders, reusable variables, controlled triggers, documented custom code, version notes, environments, and a repeatable QA and publishing process.
Can GA4 and GTM track multiple domains or subdomains?
Yes. The setup can include linker configuration, unwanted-referral handling, shared consent logic, domain mapping, and validation that sessions and conversions persist across the complete journey.
03
Consent Mode and privacy
Consent-aware measurement and technical privacy controls.
What is Google Consent Mode v2?
Consent Mode communicates a user’s consent choices to Google tags and changes how analytics and advertising signals behave. A correct setup maps CMP categories to consent states and validates both accepted and denied journeys.
Can Consent Mode be implemented with our existing cookie banner?
Usually, yes. The CMP must expose reliable consent events or APIs. The implementation maps those choices to tag behaviour and tests initial, updated, denied, and region-specific states.
Does Consent Mode make a website GDPR compliant?
Consent Mode is a technical measurement control, not a complete legal compliance solution. It should support the consent policy agreed with your legal adviser and be combined with appropriate notices, retention settings, and vendor governance.
Can analytics work when users reject cookies?
A privacy-aware setup can still send limited cookieless signals where permitted and configured, but the available detail changes. The implementation should respect the user’s choice and clearly document the resulting measurement limitations.
04
Ecommerce and conversion tracking
Revenue, lead, funnel, and campaign measurement.
Which ecommerce platforms can be tracked?
Implementations can support Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, headless storefronts, and custom ecommerce platforms. The exact approach depends on the checkout architecture, dataLayer, consent setup, and available APIs.
Which GA4 ecommerce events should be implemented?
Common events include view_item_list, select_item, view_item, add_to_cart, view_cart, begin_checkout, add_shipping_info, add_payment_info, purchase, refund, and promotion interactions when they are relevant to the journey.
Why do GA4 purchases not match the ecommerce platform?
Differences can come from consent, blockers, duplicate firing, missing transaction IDs, currency or tax rules, refunds, cross-domain breaks, payment redirects, time zones, or different attribution and reporting definitions.
Can forms, calls, downloads, and other leads be tracked as conversions?
Yes. Meaningful lead actions can be measured through confirmed form submissions, qualified clicks, scheduling completions, phone interactions, file downloads, or backend confirmations, depending on the platform and reliability required.
05
Dashboards, reporting, and integrations
Decision-ready reporting across marketing and business systems.
What makes a useful Looker Studio dashboard?
A useful dashboard starts with clear decisions and agreed KPI definitions. It uses validated sources, appropriate comparisons, focused filters, concise commentary, and a structure that different stakeholders can navigate confidently.
Can GA4 data be combined with CRM, advertising, or sales data?
Yes. Depending on the systems, data can be connected through native connectors, APIs, scheduled exports, BigQuery, SQL, spreadsheets, or an intermediate data model with documented matching rules.
When is BigQuery useful for GA4?
BigQuery is valuable for event-level analysis, longer retention, custom attribution, identity and journey modelling, joining business data, quality monitoring, and reporting that exceeds the limits of the standard GA4 interface.
Can manual reporting be automated?
Yes. Repeated exports and spreadsheet work can often be replaced with scheduled data flows, governed calculations, reusable models, automated dashboards, and monitored refresh processes.
06
Delivery, validation, and handover
How projects are implemented, tested, and documented.
How long does an analytics implementation take?
A focused implementation often takes several business days, while ecommerce, server-side, consent, or multi-platform projects need a tailored timeline. Scope and dependencies are confirmed after discovery.
What access is required?
Access depends on scope and may include GA4, GTM, the website or dataLayer, the CMP, ecommerce administration, advertising platforms, reporting sources, and development support. Least-privilege access is preferred.
How is implementation quality tested?
Critical journeys are tested with GTM Preview, GA4 DebugView, browser tools, network inspection, platform diagnostics, consent states, and controlled form or transaction scenarios. Evidence is retained for important checks.
Do you provide documentation and handover?
Yes. Deliverables can include the measurement plan, event specification, naming conventions, container notes, QA evidence, dashboard definitions, known limitations, and a handover walkthrough.
07
Engagement and ongoing support
Project models, collaboration, and post-launch support.
Do you offer one-time projects and ongoing support?
Yes. Work can be scoped as an audit, implementation, repair, dashboard project, or ongoing support arrangement for monitoring, changes, reporting, and quality assurance.
Do you work with agencies and internal teams?
Yes. DA Tech can deliver directly for businesses or work alongside marketing, analytics, product, development, and agency teams as a specialist implementation partner.
Can you work with our developers?
Yes. Technical requirements can be translated into dataLayer specifications, acceptance criteria, implementation notes, and test cases so development and analytics work remain aligned.
How is a project priced?
Pricing is based on scope, platforms, journeys, implementation complexity, access, documentation, and support requirements. A clear scope and deliverables are agreed before work begins.
